We’ve treated many young patients in our office and make every effort to make each visit enjoyable, stress free and fun. We want to help kids develop dental habits so that they can maintain optimum dental health as they grow older. It’s our experience that children as young as 3 years old who have been introduced to regular dental visits are more likely to keep good oral health practices well into their adult years. Those who have started regular dental checkups at a young age also have fewer phobias.
Taking your child to a dentist while they’re still young also ensures that potential problems can be diagnosed early to prevent the issue from developing. Consistent dental health records also allow us to make proactive decisions when it comes to maintaining your child’s oral health.
During your child’s first visit, the dentist will:
- Examine the mouth, teeth and gums.
- Check to see if fluoride treatment is needed.
- Evaluate habits like thumb-sucking.
- Teach your child how to properly clean their teeth and gums.
- Discuss with you a schedule for regular check-ups.
Prepare your child for their first dental visit by sharing your own positive dental experiences. You can also show pictures of equipment and tools that are found in dental offices. These can be found online, in magazines or books.
